Kamal Haasan’s ‘Thug Life’ Release Delayed in Karnataka Amid Controversy

The much-awaited movie Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, will not be released in Karnataka on June 5 as originally planned. Kamal Haasan informed the Karnataka High Court about this on Tuesday.

The delay comes after a controversy over a comment Haasan made, where he reportedly said that “Kannada was born out of Tamil.” This upset many people in Karnataka. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) responded by announcing they would not allow the movie to be shown in the state unless Haasan apologized.

The High Court said that just one apology from Haasan could have solved the whole issue. The court also noted that the movie’s producers are not ready to release the film in Karnataka unless there is a proper discussion with KFCC.

Kamal Haasan’s production company, Raajkamal Films International, had earlier asked the court for police protection for theatres planning to screen the movie. The next hearing will be held on June 10.

For now, the film’s release in Karnataka is on hold.
