Ludhiana saw major traffic problems on one side of the road between Durga Mata Temple and Bharat Nagar Chowk as several senior BJP leaders visited the city. They were there to support Jiwan Gupta, who was filing his nomination papers for the West constituency bypoll.
Although the event stage was set up on a service lane, many vehicles belonging to security personnel and party leaders were parked on the main road. This led to a traffic jam that left commuters frustrated.
Raman Dhir, one of the people stuck in the jam, said, “These political events should be organised in open grounds with proper parking space. Every election season, we face this same problem.”
Another commuter, Abhishek Kumar, felt that better planning was needed. “Police should deploy enough staff to manage traffic. Political parties should also take responsibility and have their own people help manage the roads,” he said.
Many locals agreed that while political events are important, they shouldn’t disrupt daily life.
