Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla to review the serious flood situation caused by heavy rains in the region.
He assured them of full support from the Central Government to help manage the crisis and carry out relief efforts.
After the call, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma shared on social media that he updated the Prime Minister about the ongoing situation in Assam. He explained that continuous rainfall in Assam and nearby states has led to major flooding, affecting many lives. He also briefed the PM about the relief operations being carried out by the state government.
CM Sarma said PM Modi was deeply concerned and promised complete assistance for relief and rehabilitation work.
So far, at least 34 people have lost their lives due to the floods across the northeastern region. Landslides have also been reported in some areas. The weather department has warned of continued rainfall, which may worsen the situation.
