In a landmark initiative to improve student outcomes and enhance collaboration between parents and teachers, the Punjab School Education Department on Saturday conducted Mega Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) in all government schools across the state. The meetings, held just before the summer break, marked the first such statewide effort to actively engage parents in their children’s academic journey.
School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains visited several schools in villages of the Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency, including Swamipur, Bhabor Sahib, Kalsera, Rampur Sahni, Maujowal, Chhotewal, Surewal, Sukhsal, and Kulgran, where he interacted with students, parents and teachers.
Over 17 lakh parents participated in the Mega PTMs, reflecting strong enthusiasm to stay informed about their children’s academic progress and overall development.
Speaking to the media, Bains said the initiative aims to strengthen home-school partnerships and boost learning outcomes. He added that during the PTMs, school heads briefed parents on holiday homework and urged them to ensure it is completed during the summer vacation.
Parents were also informed about the syllabus for the upcoming bi-monthly test scheduled on July 15, 2025. For students from Classes III to VIII, details were shared about Mission Samarth, which includes video lectures and practice questions to support continuous learning during the holidays.
The education minister said that regular interaction between parents and schools creates a positive environment that benefits the overall growth of students. He also stated that these efforts are in line with the government’s focus on delivering student-centric and inclusive education in Punjab.
On the same day, government schools across Punjab celebrated World Environment Day 2025 with activities highlighting the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally.” More than 19,000 schools took part in tree plantation drives, cloth bag stitching demonstrations, bag distribution, and the creation of School Nutrition Gardens. These efforts aim to promote sustainability and reduce plastic use among students.
Additionally, students from Classes VI to X observed Bagless Day by participating in hands-on learning activities such as handicrafts, games, and artistic performances. These activities were designed to encourage experiential learning and break away from traditional classroom routines.
Bains reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment to holistic education and said these integrated initiatives would play a crucial role in shaping responsible, informed, and empowered students.
