Sidhu Moosewala’s Father to Enter Politics, Vows to Seek Justice for Son

Ahead of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s third death anniversary, his father, Balkaur Singh, has announced that he will contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections from the Mansa constituency.

Balkaur Singh said he’s stepping into politics not for power, but to fight for justice for his son and bring change by being part of the system. He strongly criticised the Punjab government, especially Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, for failing to act against gangsters.

He also raised serious concerns about the status of Goldy Brar — the gangster accused of plotting Moosewala’s murder — who still hasn’t been arrested, despite government promises.

Sidhu Moosewala was killed on May 29, 2022, while driving in his Thar jeep near his village, Jawarhke. He had also contested the 2022 state elections from Mansa on a Congress ticket but lost during the AAP wave.

On his third death anniversary, a prayer ceremony has been organised at his cremation site in Musa village. Fans are expected to visit in large numbers. His statue has been given a fresh look, and special arrangements, including tents, have been made.

In a recent blow to the investigation, retired SHO Angrej Singh — the first officer to investigate the murder and a key witness — passed away on May 24 after a long illness. He was scheduled to testify just a day before but had missed court due to his health.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has m filed five charge sheets against 32 people, including gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, and Goldy Brar. The case is believed to be part of an ongoing gang rivalry between the Bishnoi and Bambiha gangs.

While 27 accused have been formally charged, Goldy Brar, who is believed to be hiding in Canada, has not yet faced trial.

Two eyewitnesses — Gurwinder and Gurpreet — who were with Moosewala when he was shot, testified in court. They identified the shooters: Priyavart Fauji, Ankit Sersa, Deepak Mundi, and Kashish (alias Kuldeep). They also mentioned Jagroop Singh Roopa and Manpreet Singh Mannu Kussa, who were later killed in a police encounter.

Another accused, Sandeep Kekra, was identified as the person who tipped off Goldy Brar by providing real-time updates on Moosewala’s location. He had even taken selfies with the singer before the attack.

Balkaur Singh is now set to appear in court to give his testimony on June 4. However, with the death of the original investigating officer, police officials worry that the case may be weakened, as the new officer will have to study everything from scratch and may not be able to grasp key moments of the original investigation.
