The Punjab government has officially shifted eight villages from Rajpura area in Patiala district to Banur Sub-Tehsil in SAS Nagar (Mohali) district. This move comes as real estate prices are rising quickly in Mohali and nearby towns.
The decision was announced in a government notification on May 20 by Anurag Verma, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department. The transfer was made using powers under the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1887, and the Registration Act, 1908. The Governor of Punjab has approved this change.
Officials said that landowners in these villages were not getting good prices because they were part of Patiala district. In comparison, nearby areas in Mohali were seeing higher property rates. Also, dealing with paperwork and visiting Rajpura for land deals was causing delays and reducing land value.
Now, the following villages will be part of SAS Nagar (Mohali) district under Banur Sub-Tehsil:
- Manakpur
- Khera Gajju
- Urna
- Changera
- Ucha Khera
- Gurditpura
- Hadayatpura
- Lehlan
The change will be official from the date it is published in the government’s official gazette.
