Agniveer Akashdeep Singh, a young soldier from Kothe Chahal village in Faridkot, Punjab, died while on duty in Jammu and Kashmir last week. He was serving in the army under the Agnipath recruitment scheme.
His mother, Karamjit Kaur, is heartbroken and has refused to perform his final rites. She wants the government to declare her son a martyr first.
She said that when her son’s body arrived at home, she fainted. Later, she was shocked to learn that he was not given the status of a martyr.
The family is asking the government to give him the respect and honour he deserves.
