Covid-19 volunteers who served with the Health Department during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 staged a protest on Sunday, demanding the reinstatement of their jobs.
Addressing the gathering, Gurpayar Singh stated that around 1,200 volunteers were appointed under the National Health Mission (NHM) to assist during the peak of the Covid-19 crisis. “We worked tirelessly, risking our lives to serve the public. But after Mission Fateh, we were abruptly relieved from our duties without any notice,” he said.
The volunteers alleged that despite numerous protests and repeated appeals to officials and ministers over the past four years, no concrete steps have been taken to reinstate them.
“Every time we meet officials, we are given empty assurances, but nothing changes on the ground,” said another volunteer, expressing frustration over the prolonged wait and lack of acknowledgment for their service.
