Ravneet Bittu Meets PM Modi to Discuss Punjab’s Key Issues

Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, Ravneet Singh Bittu, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to talk about important matters related to Punjab.

The meeting lasted 40 minutes. They discussed Punjab’s water shortage, cleaning of dams, and the idea of building new canals for the Doaba and Majha regions. Bittu also talked about how Punjab could benefit from the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by possibly diverting water that currently flows to Pakistan.

They also spoke about the upcoming Ludhiana West Assembly byelection. The Prime Minister asked about the political situation there. BJP has not yet announced a candidate, while other parties like AAP, Congress, and Akali Dal have already named theirs.

Bittu suggested relaxing the recruitment rules for Punjabis in paramilitary forces and raised the issue of Bandi Sikhs (Sikh prisoners). He also said that like the Malwa region, other areas of Punjab should have better canal systems for irrigation.

Later, Bittu shared on social media that he praised PM Modi for India’s recent cricket victory over Pakistan and for his strong leadership. He also gifted the Prime Minister two books — Guru Nanak’s Blessed Trail and The Golden Temple— to honor Sikh teachings.
