With tensions easing after the India-Pakistan ceasefire, the much-awaited Ludhiana West Assembly bypoll is expected to be announced this week, possibly by Sunday, according to candidates and election officials.
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain confirmed that while there is no official confirmation yet, the announcement is expected soon. Once declared, the entire election process — including nomination filing, scrutiny, withdrawals, polling, and result declaration — is expected to be completed within 30 days.
AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora said the frequent meetings held by the Election Commission suggest the announcement is imminent. “All candidates and parties know about it. The commission just has to make it official,” he said.
Mamta Ashu, wife of Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu, echoed this view. “We are fully prepared. Campaigning and door-to-door meetings are already underway, and the response has been positive,” she said.
The BJP, which has not yet named its candidate, is waiting for the official schedule to be released before making its move.
Despite rising temperatures, political activity is in full swing. Candidates from all parties are holding public meetings during cooler hours and meeting voters throughout the day, undeterred by the heat.
The bypoll holds significant political weight and is expected to see a high-intensity campaign once the election is formally announced.
