Operation Sindoor has underscored the growing importance of drones, space, and cyberspace in shaping the future of military conflicts, according to Lt Gen Anil Kumar Bhatt (retd), former Director General of Military Operations who oversaw the Doklam standoff.
In an interview with PTI Videos on Thursday, Lt Gen Bhatt emphasized that modern warfare has entered a new paradigm, where traditional battlefield strategies are being replaced or significantly enhanced by advanced technologies like unmanned systems and cyber operations.
He also criticized calls on social media from some quarters advocating for extending the conflict to reclaim Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), following the recent four-day clash. Bhatt expressed disappointment at such “war-mongering” and reminded that war should always be the last resort.
“India achieved its strategic objectives. There was no need to prolong the conflict,” he said, underlining that restraint and clarity of purpose are essential in statecraft and military operations.
Operation Sindoor, though brief, demonstrated how rapid, tech-driven responses—particularly the use of drones—can shape the outcome of high-stakes military actions, reinforcing the need to further develop capabilities in emerging domains of warfare.
