Union Minister Ravneet Bittu Meets PM Modi to Discuss Punjab’s Water Issues and Ludhiana By-Poll

Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, Ravneet Bittu, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday evening to discuss key issues concerning Punjab.

The 40-minute meeting focused on the water shortage faced by the border state. They discussed the potential impact of suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and whether water from the western tributaries of the Indus River could be diverted to Punjab. Bittu also raised the need to build canal systems for the Doaba and Majha regions to help address the crisis.

The two leaders also spoke about the upcoming Ludhiana West assembly by-election. PM Modi is said to have asked about the political situation in the area, where the BJP performed strongly in the 2024 general election. The party has not yet announced its candidate and is awaiting the election schedule.

The meeting comes as tensions continue between Punjab and Haryana over the sharing of Bhakra waters.
