Punjab Govt to Recruit 2,000 PTIs and 500 Lecturers in Govt Schools: Education Minister

The Punjab Education Department is preparing to recruit 2,000 Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) and 500 lecturers to address the shortage of teaching staff in government schools, Education Minister Harjot Bains announced on Wednesday. The recruitment advertisements will be released soon.

The PTIs will be appointed in primary schools, which number around 12,880 across the state. The move is aimed at improving physical education in early schooling years.

In addition, the department is also in the process of issuing appointment letters to Elementary Teacher Training (ETT) teachers who were already selected. This comes after the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered a revision of the ETT selection list.

According to Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) state president Vikram Dev Singh, the recruitment of 5,994 ETT teachers began in 2022, but the process remains incomplete. So far, only about 2,600 appointment letters have been issued by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The Education Department has said it is working to fill all pending vacancies and ensure that schools across Punjab have adequate teaching staff, especially in rural and underserved areas.
