On Wednesday, large-scale civil defence and blackout drills were held across Punjab due to rising security concerns near the India-Pakistan border. These exercises were meant to check how ready the public and officials are in case of an emergency.
In Ludhiana, a fake air strike was simulated at the Verka Milk Plant on Ferozepur Road. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force, fire department, civil defence, and Health Department took part in the rescue operations.
Similar mock drills were held at the Indian Oil Depot and Government Ranbir College in Sangrur. For 30 minutes, officials explained what to do during an air attack or emergency.
Blackout drills—where all lights are turned off to avoid detection during attacks—were done in many areas of Faridkot, Kotkapura, and Jaito, including markets and residential colonies.
Deputy Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur said the aim of these drills was to teach people how to act during unexpected disasters or attacks.
