BBMB Moves High Court Against Punjab Over Control of Nangal Dam

The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) on Monday approached the High Court, demanding the removal of Punjab Police personnel from the Nangal Dam.

The BBMB claimed that the Punjab government had “illegally taken control” of the dam amid an ongoing dispute with Haryana over river water sharing.

The board argued that this action violated its authority under the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966, calling it “unconstitutional and illegal.”

On May 1, Punjab Police took over the Nangal Dam and the Lohand Control Room, blocking the release of extra water to Haryana that had been approved in a BBMB meeting.

Punjab has maintained that Haryana has already received more water than its fair share and that the state cannot spare any more.
