Yoga guru Ramdev told the Delhi High Court on Friday that he will not make any hurtful or negative statements again about Hamdard’s Rooh Afza drink. This promise came after he earlier called it part of a “sharbat jihad,” which caused controversy.
The court had already ordered the removal of that video from social media on May 1. Ramdev’s company, Patanjali Foods Ltd, also gave the same promise to the court.
Hamdard had filed a case against Ramdev and Patanjali because of his remarks while promoting Patanjali’s “gulab sharbat.” Ramdev had claimed that money from Rooh Afza sales was used to build madrasas and mosques.
Earlier, on April 22, the court had asked Ramdev and Patanjali to promise in writing that they wouldn’t post similar content in the future.
On Friday, Hamdard’s lawyer said that instead of deleting the YouTube video, Ramdev’s team only made it private. Ramdev’s lawyer replied that they respect the court and will follow the order within 24 hours.
The court has now set the next hearing for May 9.
