Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is leading an all-party meeting to discuss the Bhakra Beas Management Board’s (BBMB) order directing Punjab to release 8,500 cusecs of water to Haryana. The Punjab government is strongly opposing this move.
Leaders from different political parties have joined the meeting. From the Akali Dal, Balwinder Singh Bhunder and Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema are attending. Congress is represented by Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Rana KP. BJP President Sunil Jakhar and leader Manoranjan Kalia have arrived, along with AAP President Aman Arora. BSP leaders Avtar Singh Karimpuri and MLA Nacchattar Pal are also present.
CPI(M) leader Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon is also taking part in the discussion. Invitations were earlier sent to all major party heads in Punjab.
The issue has gained urgency after the BBMB ordered Punjab to release water to Haryana on Wednesday night, but Punjab refused. In response, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan has called a meeting in Delhi at 11 a.m. with top officials from all BBMB partner states.
The Punjab government has also announced a special session of the Vidhan Sabha on Monday to further address the matter.
