Record 22 Punjabis Elected to Canada’s House of Commons in 2025 Federal Polls

A record 22 Punjabis have been elected to the House of Commons in Canada’s recent federal elections. This is more than the 18 elected in 2021 and 20 in 2019.

In Brampton, Punjabis won five seats:

  • Ruby Sahota (Liberal) beat Amandeep Judge (Conservative) in Brampton North
  • Maninder Sidhu (Liberal) beat Bob Dosanjh (Conservative) in Brampton East
  • Amandeep Sohi (Liberal) beat Taran Chahal in Brampton Centre
  • Sukhdeep Kang (Conservative) beat Sonia Sidhu (Liberal) in Brampton South
  • Amarjeet Gill (Conservative) defeated sitting Health Minister Kamal Khera (Liberal) in Brampton West

Meanwhile, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh lost his seat in Burnaby Central, finishing third, and has resigned. Another big loss was Kamal Khera, the sitting Health Minister, who lost in Brampton West.
