Singer Adnan Sami hit back at former Pakistan Information and Broadcasting Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain after he questioned Sami’s citizenship amid rising tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack.
The attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killed 26 people, mostly tourists. After the incident, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) asked all Pakistani nationals in India to leave before their visas expire.
Fawad Hussain commented on X (formerly Twitter), asking, “What about Adnan Sami?” In response, Sami, who received Indian citizenship in 2015, called him an “illiterate idiot.”
Hussain tried to mock Sami further, calling him “our very own Lahori,” but Sami corrected him, saying his family roots are from Peshawar and his mother was originally from Jammu and Kashmir. Sami also criticized Hussain for being poorly informed despite holding ministerial posts.
Adnan Sami had come to India in 2001 on a visitor visa. After his Pakistani passport expired in 2015 and was not renewed, he sought Indian citizenship, which was granted on humanitarian grounds.
Following the Pahalgam attack, Sami shared an emotional post mourning the loss of innocent lives and questioning how humanity could fall to such cruelty.
