Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has set a deadline of May 31 to arrest all drug traffickers in the state.
He instructed all district police chiefs to create a solid action plan and submit it to the police headquarters. Yadav warned that if drugs are found after the deadline or if there are any mistakes in the plans, the responsible officers would face action.
Senior officers, including SSPs and Commissioners of Police, will be held accountable for ensuring a drug-free Punjab.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Neel Garg said that the move shows the government’s strong commitment to ending drug trafficking. He confirmed that any officer failing after the deadline would be answerable.
This strict action comes just two weeks after the Anti-Narcotics Task Force caught a drug smuggler, Hira Singh, with over 18 kg of heroin. Singh was reportedly using drones to smuggle drugs from Pakistan.
