Shortage of Doctors in Muktsar, Health Minister Tries to Motivate Them

Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh recently visited Muktsar and admitted that there is a serious shortage of doctors in government hospitals.

During a meeting with local residents, he said that 12 specialists were posted to Muktsar and Gidderbaha hospitals last month, but only one or two have joined at Muktsar Civil Hospital. He explained that even though nine doctors were assigned to Muktsar, very few could actually come due to genuine reasons.

The government had appointed new MD/MS graduates, who had signed bonds to work for 1-2 years, but most of them have not joined yet.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Jagdeep Chawla said only one anaesthetist and one medicine specialist have joined Muktsar hospital, and none have joined Gidderbaha yet. Some doctors are still finishing their courses.
