On Saturday, Pakistan said it is ready to take part in a neutral and clear investigation into the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 26 people were killed. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan is tired of being blamed without proof and wants the blame game to stop.
Speaking to army cadets at a ceremony in Kakul, Shehbaz also warned India about the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. He said if India tries to block or reduce Pakistan’s share of water, Pakistan would respond with full strength. He called water Pakistan’s “lifeline” and said the country will protect it at any cost.
Shehbaz added that Pakistan has always fought against terrorism, losing over 90,000 lives and suffering major financial losses. He said India’s accusations are baseless and that Pakistan will continue to support the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
His comments came after The Resistance Front (TRF), linked to Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), denied being part of the Pahalgam attack. TRF claimed its website was hacked and said the message taking responsibility for the attack was fake. Sources believe Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, may have pressured TRF to deny its role.
It is now likely that TRF might not release the body camera videos recorded during the attack. Meanwhile, Pakistan might try to blame local groups for the incident instead.
