Punjab has been put on high alert after a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The Punjab government has increased security at religious places, public areas, and for people who are at high risk.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held a meeting to check the security situation. He said that patrolling has been increased at busy places and schools, especially those with students from Jammu and Kashmir.
Police are checking more vehicles at state and district borders. DGP Gaurav Yadav said Punjab is in close contact with the J&K Police and intelligence agencies. He warned that Pakistan is trying to harm India secretly, but Punjab is ready to fight back.
CM Mann said Punjab’s long border with Pakistan makes it a target. He also warned about a growing link between terrorists, gangsters, and drug smugglers. Drones are being used to send drugs and weapons into Punjab. He promised that the government will not let anyone disturb the peace.
The state is also working to bring back Punjabis who are stuck in Kashmir.
Congress Reacts:
Punjab Congress leader Amrinder Singh Raja Warring called the attack an attack on India’s unity. He said the Congress party supports the central government in punishing the attackers.
