Veteran actress Rekha, known for her timeless charm and guarded personal life, recently offered a rare and heartfelt glimpse into her inner world during a candid interview with Rediff. Speaking openly about love, motherhood, and her deep dedication to her craft, Rekha revealed the reasons behind her choices and the life she continues to lead on her own terms.
While Rekha has been romantically linked with several prominent personalities in the film industry, her only confirmed marriage was with Delhi-based industrialist Mukesh Aggarwal in 1990. Tragically, the marriage lasted less than a year due to Aggarwal’s untimely death. Since then, Rekha has remained single, embracing solitude and independence.
When asked whether she ever missed having children, the legendary actress responded thoughtfully, “Not any more. Even if I find the ultimate man to have babies with, it would be very unfair to my priorities. I cannot be there for just one human being in the world because if I have a baby, I would not be able to focus on anything else.”
For Rekha, work has always been more than a profession—it is her purpose. She explained that motherhood requires deep commitment, something she feels might conflict with her broader sense of responsibility. “Then what happens to the babies all over the world with whom I am connected?” she said. “If you have the power to be Rekha then you better be prepared to reach out to anyone who wants to reach out to you.”
On the subject of companionship, Rekha spoke with equal honesty. “If I had a man, I would be devoting all my attention to that one person. I am an extremely uni-focus person,” she said. With a touch of warmth and humor, she added, “Main unka bed bhi banaoongi. I will take out his clothes, personally monitor his menu, prepare the dabba and personally deliver it to him.”
However, she admitted that her devotion to such a relationship might come at the cost of everything else. “I do not think I am capable of enjoying the best of both worlds. I cannot deprive the other world of fans and admirers just for that narrow world of a family,” she reflected. “Maybe I am being unreal and impractical, but I am not in denial. If I find someone who is willing to share me with fans, I might change my mind.”
True to her mystique, Rekha remains a figure of strength and self-awareness—living life not by convention, but by conviction.
