Anurag Kashyap Faces Threats After Controversial Comment, Clarifies Statement

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is in the middle of a controversy after he made a comment about the Brahmin community on social media. Some people were upset by what he said and started sending death and rape threats to him, his family, and friends.

On Friday, Kashyap shared a post on Instagram. He said his comment was taken out of context and people misunderstood it. He apologized not for his post, but for the one line that caused so much anger. He said no comment is worth putting his loved ones in danger.

He added that people can abuse him, but his family has done nothing wrong. “If you want an apology, here it is,” he said.

In another post, Kashyap shared a screenshot of his original comment and asked people to read it fully and understand the context before reacting.

Kashyap has been active on social media while promoting his upcoming movie Phule, a biopic on social reformers Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule. The film stars Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa and will now be released in theatres on April 25.

After the trailer was released on April 10, some people from the Brahmin community objected, saying they were shown in a negative way in the film.
