After a shocking case of sexual assault of an airhostess inside the ICU of Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana’s Health Minister Arti Rao has ordered a statewide review of hospital security protocols.
The minister called the incident “disturbing” and emphasized that patient safety, especially in critical care units, is non-negotiable. Gurugram, known for its top hospitals and medical tourism, has been shaken by the news.
Rao said that although ICU security SOPs (standard operating procedures) are in place, the incident suggests gaps in their enforcement. She announced the formation of an expert committee to review and possibly update the current protocols.
Both the state government and police have launched separate investigations. Rao confirmed that if negligence is found, there will be strict action against those responsible.
The incident has worried international patients and their families. Translators and support staff, especially those helping visitors from Asia and the Middle East, have started giving safety advisories.
One Israeli translator said they’ve told families to stay alert and report any signs of distress or discomfort in patients.
