Punjab and Haryana High Court Stops Arrest of Congress Leader Partap Bajwa Till April 22

On Wednesday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court told the Punjab government not to arrest Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa until the next hearing on April 22. This order came after Bajwa asked the court to cancel the police case (FIR) filed against him.

The case was filed after Bajwa said in a TV interview, “50 bombs have reached Punjab. Of this, 18 have exploded, 32 are yet to go off.” The police booked him under serious charges, including spreading false information that could harm the country’s unity and create hate among people.

Bajwa’s lawyer, APS Deol, said the court asked the Punjab government to reply to their request to cancel the case. The court also told Bajwa not to speak publicly about the matter.

Bajwa, who is the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, went to the Cyber Crime police station in Mohali on Tuesday for questioning. He was questioned for about six hours and said it felt like a “sustained interrogation.” He also said that the case against him is part of a political vendetta by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.

The next hearing in the case will be on April 22.
