Punjab’s Leader of Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, has been booked by the Mohali cybercrime police for sharing false and misleading information. The police say his statement could harm national security and unity.
Bajwa, a Congress leader, claimed in a TV interview that 50 bombs or hand grenades were smuggled into Punjab and that 18 had already been used in terror attacks. His statement caused a big reaction even before the full interview was shown.
Punjab Intelligence officials quickly went to Bajwa’s house to question him. After that, he became unreachable.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann asked Bajwa to tell the truth and reveal where he got this information. He also questioned why Bajwa didn’t inform the Punjab Police if he knew about such serious threats.
