The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in Delhi today, offering a temporary break from the scorching heat as a Western Disturbance sweeps through North India. The city experienced a dust storm and light showers on Thursday, offering brief relief.
However, this respite may be short-lived. Once the weather clears, temperatures are expected to soar past 40°C again, with a fresh heatwave likely in West Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab from April 14 to 16. Isolated dust storms may also strike parts of Rajasthan.
Across Northwest India, temperatures are expected to drop by 3–5°C over the next three days, before climbing again. A similar pattern is likely in Central and West India.
The IMD has issued that orange Alert for 8 states – including West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Kerala, and Mahe – warning of heavy rainfall in isolated areas. Yellow Alert for several others including Rajasthan, MP, UP, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Assam, with risks of lightning and gusty winds.
Meanwhile, coastal regions of Gujarat and Maharashtra will continue to grapple with hot and humid conditions.
