Jakhar Accuses Punjab CM of Misusing Intelligence, Seeks Governor’s Intervention

Punjab BJP President Sunil Kumar Jakhar on Thursday asked Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to step in, accusing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of a serious “constitutional breach” over the sudden transfer of Punjab Police Intelligence chief RK Jaiswal.

Jakhar claimed the Chief Minister is misusing the state’s intelligence services for political spying. He pointed to CM Mann’s recent statement in the Punjab Assembly where he said, “Main sarkar vich haan, mere kol intelligence hai” (I am in the government, and I have the intelligence). Jakhar said this clearly shows the intelligence department is being used to watch political opponents, which he called a violation of democratic rules and institutional ethics.

Soon after this statement, RK Jaiswal, who was the Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence), was suddenly transferred. Jakhar questioned whether Jaiswal was removed because he refused to follow political orders or resisted pressure to misuse the intelligence unit for party interests.

He also referred to the recent grenade attack on BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia’s home in Jalandhar on April 7–8. Jakhar said this attack proves that focusing intelligence on political spying can leave the state vulnerable to real threats.

In a letter to the Governor, Jakhar demanded:A high-level judicial or independent inquiry and action from the Central Government and national investigative agencies

He said Punjab’s status as a border state makes this a national security issue, not just a state concern. Calling the issue “IntelGate Punjab,” Jakhar said this was not a one-time mistake but part of a dangerous trend of using government systems for political gain.
