On Monday, the family members of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath met with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, demanding the transfer of Patiala SSP Nanak Singh and a CBI investigation into the assault on the Army officer and his son by police personnel. The meeting came a day after they met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and rejected the state police’s probe by a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The incident, which allegedly occurred on March 13 over a parking dispute, led to Colonel Bath, currently posted in New Delhi, receiving multiple injuries and requiring treatment at a Military Hospital. Following the incident, 12 police officers were suspended.
Jaswinder Kaur Bath, the officer’s wife, expressed hope that strict action would be taken after the Chief Minister assured them of a meeting with senior officers. However, by evening, the family was still awaiting further updates. Jaswinder Kaur reiterated their demand for an independent CBI probe and the transfer of Patiala SSP Nanak Singh.
Meanwhile, the SIT, led by Additional DGP AS Rai, visited the crime scene and confirmed that CCTV footage had been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory for further analysis. Rai assured that the investigation would be unbiased and thorough. He also encouraged the public to come forward with any additional evidence or information related to the case, with a session scheduled for April 2 at the Circuit House in Patiala.
The family remains firm in their call for justice, expressing hope that the matter will be resolved fairly.
