250 Police Officers Transferred in Major Shake-Up to Strengthen Drug Fight

In a major move, the district police chief, SSP Aditya, has transferred 250 police officers in just one day. Many of these officers had been working in the same place for several years.

This large-scale transfer is part of a two-step plan: to reorganize the force and to make the fight against heroin in the border area stronger. It’s the first time so many officers have been shifted at once. More transfers are expected soon.

Most of the officers have been moved to the 12 police stations in the district to strengthen them. The rest have been sent to the Police Lines.

Three Station House Officers (SHOs) have also been shifted — Gurmeet Singh from Gurdaspur City, Onkar Singh from Behrampur, and Mohan Lal from Puranashala. The head of the Jaura Chhattran police post has also been removed.

The official reason given is that these officers were not successful in preventing or solving crimes. Unofficial sources say their closeness to politicians was affecting their work.

Sources revealed that the transfer list was secretly prepared over the last few days. A senior officer said, “The department has been cleaned up. Many officers were staying at one place for too long. These transfers were necessary, and now the fight against drugs will get stronger.”

There were concerns that the fight against Pakistani drones and drug smuggling wasn’t strong enough. Drones carrying heroin from Afghanistan often enter through areas like Dorangla, Behrampur, and Kalanaur. Most officers in these areas have now been changed, giving the police a “new look.”

SSP Aditya said he used a “performance review” method before making decisions. He looked at how officers performed in drug cases, complaint handling, crime control, and pending investigations. Those who did well stayed; those who didn’t were transferred.

At the same time, 60 officers received certificates for their good work.
