25 Jail Officials Suspended in Punjab Over Corruption, Drug Links

In a major crackdown on corruption and drug-related activities within the prison system, the Punjab government has suspended 25 jail officials, including three Deputy Superintendents and two Assistant Superintendents.

The action comes amid growing concerns over irregularities and the presence of drug networks operating inside state prisons. Officials said the suspensions are part of a larger effort to clean up the jail administration and restore discipline.

A government spokesperson said the move reflects the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. “This step is aimed at systemic reform in prison management and ensuring greater transparency and accountability. It is expected to significantly improve jail functioning,” the spokesperson added.

The crackdown follows multiple reports pointing to serious lapses in prison security and alleged collusion between jail staff and drug traffickers. The government has promised further action as investigations continue.

Further details on the suspended officials and ongoing inquiries are awaited.
