2000 IndiGo Flights Canceled, Passengers Stranded!
The biggest airline in the nation, IndiGo, is experiencing an operational issue that doesn’t appear to be improving, and passengers’ problems persist. In the past five days, almost 2,000 IndiGo flights have been canceled, seriously impairing the country’s aviation infrastructure.
Due to the extreme circumstances, 19 flights at Ahmedabad Airport and 6 flights at Thiruvananthapuram had been canceled by 6 AM on Saturday alone. Over 3 lakh passengers have been directly impacted by this serious problem over the last four days, leaving them stuck and compelled to roam airports.
1000 Flights Grounded on Friday
The data indicates that Friday turned out to be “Black Friday” for IndiGo, with about 1,000 flights canceled all day. More than 550 flights had failed to take off on December 4th before this. On Saturday, this pattern persisted, causing mayhem and fear at many airports around the nation.
Government Relents, but Orders Investigation
The government has been compelled to alter its position after witnessing the situation go out of control. With immediate effect, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has relaxed the FDTL (Flight Duty Time Limitations) regulations, removing stringent guidelines pertaining to the crew’s weekly break.
Minister Asks: “Why is Only IndiGo Facing Problems?”
In a forceful statement, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that no other airline has encountered issues with the new FDTL regulations since they went into effect on November 1. This makes it abundantly evident that IndiGo is solely to blame. The airline’s carelessness will be looked into, he continued, and severe measures will be implemented.
Company Admits Its Mistake
In response to mounting pressure, IndiGo Airlines also acknowledged that a significant planning error had occurred. When the new regulations were put into effect, the corporation acknowledged that their inaccurate assessment of the situation caused a crew shortage, which paralyzed its operations.
