1,000 Tourists Stranded in North Sikkim Due to Landslides and Heavy Rain

Around 1,000 tourists have been stranded in North Sikkim after landslides hit the area due to heavy rainfall, police said. About 200 tourist vehicles got stuck in Chungthang on Thursday, and the people are currently staying at a local Gurudwara.

Chungthang is located about 100 km from the state capital, Gangtok. Major landslides happened on roads connecting Chungthang to Lachen and Lachung, blocking access to these popular hill stations.

Because of the dangerous situation and ongoing rain, the district administration has stopped all tourist travel to North Sikkim. Permits issued for visiting the region on April 25 have also been cancelled.

Lachen and Lachung are famous tourist spots known for their scenic views and nearby attractions like Gurudongmar Lake and Yumthang Valley.
