Traffic Alert: Routes to Avoid in Chandigarh Amid Farmers’ Protest

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police have increased security across the city due to the ongoing farmers’ protest. Nakas (checkpoints) have been set up at 18 key entry points, with 1,240 police personnel deployed, including senior officers.

High-Security Checkpoints  

Each checkpoint is managed by a DSP-rank officer, assisted by an Inspector. The heaviest deployment is at:

– Mataur barrier (between Sectors 51 and 52)

– Furniture Market barrier

– Mullanpur barrier

Nearly 100 police officers are stationed at the Mataur barrier, a common protest site.

Routes to Avoid  

Traffic may be restricted on several roads. Commuters are advised to avoid:

– Zirakpur barrier

– Faidan barrier

– Sector 48/49 road

– Sector 49/50 road

– Jail Road (Sector 50/51)

– Sector 51/52 (Mataur barrier)

– Sector 52/53 (Kajheri Chowk)

– Sector 53/54 (Furniture Market)

– Sector 54/55 (Badheri barrier)

– Sector 55/56 (Palsora barrier)

– Nayagaon and Mullanpur barriers

 

Heavy Police Deployment in Mohali 

Around 2,000 police personnel are stationed at key points in Mohali, Kharar, and Lalru. Barricades have been set up at major roads, and water cannons and riot-control vehicles are ready if needed. Several farmer leaders were detained in Mohali on Tuesday morning.

Security Arrangements  

Police will be on high alert, especially between 8 AM and 8 PM, when the protest movement is expected to peak. Additional security measures will be in place overnight to prevent unauthorized entry into Chandigarh.

Authorities urge commuters to plan their routes in advance to avoid inconvenience.
