
At the 18th Asian Film Awards held on Sunday in Hong Kong, Payal Kapadia’s film All We Imagine As Light won the Best Film award. The film was competing against titles like Black Dog (China), Exhuma (South Korea), Teki Cometh (Japan), and Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In (Hong Kong).
Shahana Goswami was named Best Actress for her role in Santosh, a film about a widowed housewife who becomes a police constable and gets involved in a murder investigation. The film also won the Best New Director award for Sandhya Suri.
All We Imagine As Light made history last year as the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival. It is an India-French co-production that tells the story of two nurses from Kerala living in Mumbai.
Other nominees for Best Actress included Kani Kusruti (All We Imagine As Light), Sylvia Chang (Daughter’s Daughter), Kawai Yuumi (Desert of Namibia), and Kim Go-eun (Exhuma).
In the Best New Director category, Sandhya Suri won over other nominees like Yamanaka Yoko (Desert of Namibia) and Sora Neo (Happyend).
