The Indian government has updated passport rules for 2025. According to the new rule, people born on or after October 1, 2023, must provide a birth certificate as the only proof of their date of birth when applying for a passport.
The birth certificate must be issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths, the Municipal Corporation, or an authority approved under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969.
The government announced these changes in an official notification, and the new rule will come into effect once published in the official Gazette.
