
Ludhiana Rural Police arrested the main accused in the firing incident at Lakhe Wale Jewellers showroom near Rani Jhansi Chowk, Jagraon. The arrest happened after a police encounter in which the accused was shot in the leg.
The accused, Amrit Singh alias Labha from Zira (Ferozepur), was caught with a .32 bore pistol, two live bullets, and a bike. Ludhiana Rural SSP Dr. Ankur Gupta said that police had been tracking him since the incident on March 5. He was finally located near the Jagraon-Sidhwan Bet Road during an intelligence-based operation.
When the police tried to arrest him, he fired three shots at them, hitting a police vehicle. In response, the police fired back, injuring him in the right leg. He was taken to a local Civil Hospital and is in stable condition.
An FIR has been registered against him under relevant sections of the law at the City Jagraon Police Station. SSP Ankur Gupta stated that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to maintaining public safety and will take strict action against criminals.
