Chandigarh: Former Haryana minister Satpal Sangwan passed away on Sunday night at the age of 83. He had been unwell for the past few days and was undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.
His son, Suneel Sangwan, who is currently the BJP MLA from Charkhi Dadri, confirmed the news. Satpal’s mortal remains will be brought to his residence on Loharu Road in Charkhi Dadri, where they will be kept for a few hours for ‘antim darshan.’ The cremation will take place in his native village, Chandeni, in Dadri district.
Satpal Sangwan had been battling liver cancer in recent days. Before entering politics, he worked in the telecommunication department. He stepped into politics at the behest of former Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal, who gave him a Haryana Vikas Party ticket from Dadri in 1996. He won the election and became a staunch supporter of Bansi Lal.
Later, Satpal Sangwan joined the Congress and was re-elected as an MLA in 2009. Over his political career, he contested the Assembly elections from Dadri six consecutive times and served as the Cooperatives Minister in the Congress government.
