New Delhi, March 12, 2025 — The BJP-led Delhi government has decided to upgrade 12 Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics and 13 Delhi government dispensaries, with a total budget of Rs 2.55 crore. The upgrades aim to convert the clinics into Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandir (UAAM) and the dispensaries into Ayushman Arogya Mandir Primary Health Centres (PHC).
According to a letter from the Chief Engineer of Health to the Special Secretary of Infrastructure, the modifications must be completed urgently as the clinics and dispensaries are being closely monitored at the highest level of the Delhi government. The buildings are expected to serve as models for similar Ayushman Arogya Mandir PHC & UAAM structures.
The 12 Mohalla Clinics, which are located in New Delhi and Central District, serve unauthorised colonies and Jhuggi Jhopri clusters. Among the 13 dispensaries, two are located in North West and South West Delhi, with the remaining ones spread across nine other districts.
The average cost of upgrading a government dispensary has been estimated at Rs 15 lakh, while each Mohalla Clinic upgrade will cost about Rs 5 lakh. The total required for these upgrades is Rs 2.55 crore.
The letter also requested permission to use funds from the dispensary budget to carry out these upgrades.
Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh had previously announced plans to rename the AAP’s Mohalla Clinics. He also revealed that 250 Mohalla Clinics operating in rented spaces will be closed.
