Chandigarh: Punjab AAP President and New & Renewable Energy Minister, Aman Arora, has said that the government will not allow anyone to pressure them or cause inconvenience to the public.
Speaking to media he explained that the state government had tried to engage with striking revenue officials and the protesting farmers of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), but they refused to cooperate. To prevent the protest from bringing the state to a standstill, around 350 SKM leaders were detained.
Arora stated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was ready to discuss fair demands with SKM, but they rejected the offer. He denied claims that the AAP government was biased against SKM while favoring other farmer groups, saying the issue was now more about internal competition among the farmer unions.
Regarding the suspension of 14 revenue officials, Arora said the government took this step in the state’s interest as they would not tolerate corruption. He assured that even AAP leaders would not be spared if found guilty of corruption, but due legal procedures must be followed before taking action.
