Amazon Launches Alexa+: Next-Generation AI Personal Assistant

New Features Enhance Conversational Ability and Personalization, Available on Multiple Echo Devices and New Mobile App, Powered by Advanced AI, Alexa+ Promises to Revolutionize User Interaction

On Wednesday, Amazon unveiled Alexa+, its next-generation personal assistant powered by generative AI, set to roll out in the United States over the coming weeks. Alexa+ will be available on devices such as the Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21, priced at $19.99 per month, though Prime users can access it for free. Customers can also download Alexa+ through the new mobile app available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Panos Panay, Senior Vice President of Devices and Services at Amazon, described Alexa+ as “more conversational, smarter, and personalized,” emphasizing its ability to assist users in various tasks. “She keeps you entertained, helps you learn, keeps you organized, summarizes complex topics, and can converse about virtually anything,” he noted in a blog post. Alexa+ can manage home security, make reservations, track new artists, and facilitate online shopping with tailored suggestions based on user interests.

Unlike its predecessor, Alexa+, is designed to be more expansive and natural, capable of understanding half-formed thoughts, colloquial expressions, and intricate ideas. Amazon claims that interacting with Alexa+ will feel akin to conversing with an insightful friend.

Powered by large language models (LLMs) through Amazon Bedrock, Alexa+ features agentic capabilities, enabling it to navigate the Internet independently to complete complex tasks. Additionally, it aims to provide a personalized experience by remembering details about individual users, making it a significant upgrade from the original Alexa.
