Tarn Taran: The body of Gurpreet Singh, a worker trapped in the collapsed Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Telangana, was found on Sunday after over 48 hours of rescue efforts. Singh, 40, worked as a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) operator for Robbins Co.
Singh was among eight workers trapped when the tunnel partially collapsed on February 22. His body was buried under silt at a depth of about 10 feet. The rescue operation is still ongoing to find the remaining seven workers.
Singh, a resident of Cheema Kalan village in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, was the sole breadwinner of his family. He is survived by his wife, two daughters (aged 13 and 16), and his mother. His relatives and villagers gathered at his home to offer their condolences.
The Telangana government has announced financial assistance of ₹25 lakh for his family.
