Farmers Protest Outside AAP Leaders’ Homes, Challenge CM for Debat

Chandigarh: Farmers from the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) protested outside the homes of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders across Punjab today. They challenged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to a debate on agriculture in Chandigarh on March 15.

The protests took place at 70 locations from 11 AM to 3 PM. Farmers were angry about the government’s crackdown on their leaders between March 3 and 5, when many were arrested to stop them from protesting in Chandigarh. After being blocked from reaching Chandigarh, the farmer unions decided to protest outside AAP leaders’ residences instead.

Farmers raised slogans against the government, saying they were being denied their democratic right to protest. Union leaders also declared that they would oppose AAP in the upcoming elections.

In a statement, the SKM accused the AAP government of following the BJP’s strategy of dividing people based on caste and rural-urban differences by defaming the farmer movement.
