Punjab: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday hailed his government’s anti-drug drive as a “historic moment” for Punjab, emphasizing a concentrated police effort to dismantle supply chains and apprehend offenders.
Addressing the passing-out parade of approximately 2,500 recruits at the police training center in Jahan Khelan, Mann reiterated that gangsters and drug smugglers had no place in Punjab and would soon be “wiped out” and imprisoned.
Without naming any party, he accused previous governments of shielding criminals, asserting that his administration had launched a determined campaign to eradicate these “anti-national elements.” He assured the public that Punjab would be made drug-free with their active participation.
“The supply lines are being severed, drug peddlers are being jailed, and their properties confiscated,” Mann stated.
Congratulating the new police recruits, he emphasized the evolving nature of crime and the importance of specialized training for law enforcement.
In a gesture of support, the CM handed over cheques of ₹1 crore each to the families of five police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Mann also highlighted the launch of India’s first dedicated Sadak Surakhya Force to prevent road accidents. With 1,597 specially trained personnel, including women, the initiative has led to a 48.10% reduction in accident fatalities since its launch in February last year.
