Good News for Punjabis: Qadian-Beas Railway Link Also Approved.

The Railways has made the decision to resume construction on the long-delayed 40-kilometer train link between Qadian and Beas. Ravneet Singh Bittu, the Union Minister of State for Railways, has instructed officials to “defreeze” the project. This project was previously classified as “frozen” because of difficulties with alignment, difficulties acquiring land, and political issues in the area.

In railway jargon, “freezing” a project refers to putting it on hold because advancement is not feasible for a variety of reasons. “Defreezing” refers to resuming work on the project once all challenges have been resolved.

According to Bittu, there is no lack of funding for railway projects in Punjab, as indicated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji. “I am always working on new projects, finishing up unfinished ones, and restarting ones that were put on hold for unanticipated reasons. I saw the significance of this line—Mohali-Rajpura, Ferozepur-Patti, and now Qadian-Beas.”

“That is why I have instructed officials to remove all hurdles and resume construction work,” he stated. “This new rail line will provide a significant boost to the struggling industrial units of Batala, often called the ‘Steel City’ of the region.”

According to a letter from Northern Railway’s Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), “The Railway Board desires that the Qadian-Beas line should be defrozen and the detailed estimate resubmitted and sanctioned quickly so that construction work can commence.” The North-Western Railway was officially approved by the British government in 1929, marking the beginning of the project’s lengthy history. Nearly one-third of the project was finished by 1932, but it was suddenly put on hold.

Decision by the Democratic Rights Sabha to Hold a Conference on Human Rights Day.

In honor of International Human Rights Day, the Democratic Rights Sabha’s Bathinda District Unit (Jamhoori Adhikar Sabha) is hosting a significant convention. The convention, with the theme “Current Challenges to Human Rights,” will take place at Teachers Home in Bathinda on Wednesday, December 10th, at 11:00 AM.

The State President, Professor Jagmohan Singh, will be the main speaker.

District President Principal Bagga Singh, Assistant Secretary Avtar Singh, and Press Secretary Dr. Ajitpal Singh provided information about this, stating that although the Indian government has also signed the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the government is engaging in various forms of repression at the command of imperialist forces, disregarding the rights outlined in that Declaration. Every person has the right to a life of independence and dignity.

They said that no one should be discriminated against on the basis of color, race, gender, language, religion, politics, different viewpoints, or geography. In addition, any person accused of a crime has the right to defend themselves and ought to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a fair trial.

They did point out that India, which is sometimes referred to as the greatest democracy in the world, has a bad human rights situation. As part of the government’s declared objective to eradicate Naxalism by March 2026, “Operation Kagaar” entails the police, paramilitary groups, and DRG massacring tribal people and their leaders in order to seize water, forests, and land from them. There are also simulated police interactions. People like Umar Khalid and others have been imprisoned without charge or trial for years.

They also emphasized the fact that a number of public sector projects have been given to profit-seekers in exchange for meager compensation. There are now new labor regulations and criminal legislation in place. Soon to be put into effect are the Wakf Amendment Bill and the Electricity Amendment Bill. Pro-government organizations include the Election Commission, the CBI, the ED, and the NIA. Discrimination affects women, Dalits, and various minorities. The freedom of the press is also in danger. Power is concentrated in one place. Both privatization and saffronization (Bhagwakaran) are occurring in educational institutions. Communalism in all its manifestations is being promoted. The struggles of individuals from all facets of society continue to be a source of hope despite oppression and torture.

Partap Singh Bajwa Reaches High Court: Do You Know What the Whole Matter Is?

The court is currently considering the alleged violence and altercations that occurred on December 4 during the Punjab Zila Parishad and Block Samiti nomination filing. Punjab’s Leader of the Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, visited the Punjab and Haryana High Court today, Friday.

He has submitted a petition about the prejudice, abuse of authority, and violence against Congress candidates that took place during the nomination process. The Honourable Chief Justice has approved the oral appeal due to the gravity of the case, and the hearing will now take place on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Demand for Extension of Nomination Period

Bajwa has asked the Court to extend the deadline for submitting nomination papers for candidates who were unable to do so because of the chaos and violence in a petition submitted through his attorney, Arshpreet Khadial.

Action Demanded Against Police Officials

The petition calls for severe punishment for police officers who allegedly followed orders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and either failed to stop the violence or took a biased stance. Bajwa claims that the abuse of the government and police is stifling democracy.

Appeal to Appoint an Observer

Bajwa has also called for the establishment of a “Supervisor” or “Observer” to oversee the entire election process in order to guarantee free and fair elections. He thinks there is a good chance that elections will be rigged in the absence of unbiased oversight. Now, everyone’s attention is on Monday’s hearing.

TSPL Becomes a Role Model in Preventing Stubble Burning and Improving Air Quality.

The most sophisticated and expansive Circular Biofuel Model in Mansa has been constructed by Vedanta Power’s 1,980 MW supercritical thermal power plant, Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL), which has significantly improved air quality. Mansa district, which has been a fire hotspot in Punjab for the previous few years, has seen a sharp decline in stubble burning cases.

Paddy stubble burning cases decreased from 2,253 in 2023 to 618 in 2024 and then to just 306 in 2025 during the harvest season in Mansa, according to data from the District Administration. This is a reduction of 50.5% in a single year and 87% in just two years. In 2025, 104 of the district’s 244 villages had no instances of stubble burning. Heron Kalan and Dodra, two previously high-burn villages with 45 and 31 instances, respectively, in 2023, reported zero cases this year.

“Developing a long-term, sustainable model to prevent stubble burning in the district has been our priority,” stated Navjot Kaur, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Mansa District. This shift has been greatly aided by TSPL’s 360° strategy, which includes managing stubble, helping farmers sell it, and turning it into sustainable energy. This collaborative approach has resulted in a significant decrease in fire incidents within the district.

creation of the largest torrefied bio-pellet unit in Punjab
Because TSPL’s supercritical plant cannot burn traditional biomass, it needs a high-density, carbon-neutral biofuel, which is hard to come by. In order to overcome this obstacle, TSPL worked with dependable partners to establish the largest Torrefied Bio-Pellet manufacturing facility in Punjab, which has a daily capacity of 500 tons, close to the plant. This facility gives farmers a fixed market for purchases while turning locally collected stubble into high-value fuel.

Significant Change with Biomass Co-firing
By November 30, 2025, TSPL had achieved 5.07% of its yearly goal by co-firing over 250,330 metric tonnes of biomass. Particularly in the Punjab and NCR regions, which are constantly impacted by stubble burning, the growing use of biomass has prompted farmers to embrace sustainable and clean stubble management, which has improved air quality and decreased fire incidences.

The CEO of Power at Vedanta Limited, Rajinder Singh Ahuja, stated, “Improving Punjab’s air quality requires effective management of rice stubble. TSPL has developed a strong priority-based “stubble-to-biofuel” chain in collaboration with farmers and partners, which has reduced Mansa by 87% in just two years. This concept demonstrates how district-level change can be achieved by combining circularity and technology.

A massive Paddy Straw Management program to support sustainable agriculture in the area has been significantly advanced by TSPL’s flagship CSR project, “Nayi Disha” (New Direction). In the previous season, the program prevented stubble burning on 20,040 acres of land and made sure that over 8 lakh tonnes of stubble were procured from the Malwa Belt, with partners providing 73% of the stubble from Mansa district.

TSPL has expanded the program this year, preventing farm fires on almost 28,180 acres of land, further bolstering this momentum. Through knowledgeable and successful interventions, this program has involved about 3,800 farmers, promoting sustainable farming and directing the district toward less stubble burning.

A farmer from Kotli Khurd village named Kewal Singh revealed that he hasn’t burned his stubble in the previous four years. The health of his land has improved thanks to sustainable farming practices. He stated that he and many other farmers had avoided stubble burning thanks to TSPL’s ongoing awareness campaigns and advice.

35% of Punjab’s electricity comes from TSPL, a division of Vedanta Power, which has made biomass co-firing a key component of its carbon reduction strategy. Its concept, which combines cutting-edge technology with community empowerment to give a long-term solution to the worsening air pollution situation, provides other districts and states a repeatable integrated solution.

The police surrounded farmer leader Charan Singh Kaler Ghuman of the Kisan Sangharsh Committee late at night and placed him under house arrest as a result of the ‘Rail Roko’ (Stop the Train) call made by farmer organizations today.

The Circle President of the Kisan Sangharsh Committee, Charan Singh Kaler Ghuman, was placed under house arrest late last night after a large number of police officers from various Amritsar Rural Police stations surrounded his home in the fields outside. This prevented Ghuman from getting to the rail blockade location.

Many farmers from neighboring villages began to arrive and congregate outside the farmer leader’s home when they heard that the police had encircled it. Speaking to the farmers from the roof of his home on this particular occasion, Charan Singh Kaler Ghuman declared that he and his companions would arrive at the location where the trains are to be halted regardless of the number of police parties surrounding them.
