ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਸਮਾਰੋਹ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਗੁਲਮਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ, ਪਰਿਆਵਰਣ-ਮਿਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ-ਸਤਰੀ ਸੈਰ-ਸਪਾਟਾ ਮੰਜ਼ਿਲ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਨਵੀਂ ਸੜਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਯੋਜਨਾ, ਪਾਰਕਿੰਗ ਸੁਵਿਧਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ, ਪੈਦਲ ਯਾਤਰੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਮਾਰਗ, ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਹਰੇ-ਭਰੇ ਪਾਰਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਇਸ ਪਹਲ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹਨ।

ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, ਗੁਲਮਰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੈਲਾਨੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਕੇਂਦਰ, ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਕਿਓਸਕ ਅਤੇ ਡਿਜ਼ੀਟਲ ਗਾਈਡ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਵੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਸੈਲਾਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ। ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੈਰ-ਸਪਾਟਾ ਸੀਜ਼ਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੈਲਾਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਧਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਵਪਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਵੀਂ ਰਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਮਿਲੇਗੀ।

ਸਮਾਰੋਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੋਲਦਿਆਂ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਪਰਿਆਵਰਣ ਸੰਰੱਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰਜੀਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਨਵੀਆਂ ਯੋਜਨਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੂੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਨ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ, ਪਾਣੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਅਤੇ ਨਵੀਕਰਨਯੋਗ ਊਰਜਾ ਦੇ ਉਪਯੋਗ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਗੁਲਮਰਗ ਦੀ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਿਆਵਰਣ ਸੰਤੁਲਨ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ।

ਸਥਾਨਕ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਰੋਜ਼ਗਾਰ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਮੌਕੇ ਬਣਨਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੀ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਹਾਲਤ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। ਟੂਰਿਜ਼ਮ, ਹੋਟਲ ਉਦਯੋਗ, ਹੱਥਕਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਉਤਪਾਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਕਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਲਾਭ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਹੈ।

ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ, ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਗੁਲਮਰਗ ਦੇ ਸਰਵਾਂਗੀਣ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਅਜੇ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਯੋਜਨਾਵਾਂ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਜਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਗੁਲਮਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਜੰਮੂ ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਗੋਂ ਪੂਰੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਮਾਡਲ ਸੈਰ-ਸਪਾਟਾ ਮੰਜ਼ਿਲ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਵੱਲ ਮੀਲ ਪੱਥਰ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ।

ਕਾਰਜਕ੍ਰਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ Nowgam ਵਿਸਫੋਟ ਇੱਕ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਘਟਨਾ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਉਲਟ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਪੀੜਤ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਸੰਭਵ ਮਦਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਨੌਕਰੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਗਜ਼ ਸੌਂਪਣਾ ਉਸੇ ਵਾਅਦੇ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ ਵੱਲ ਇੱਕ ਅਹਿਮ ਕਦਮ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਮਿਲ ਸਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਨਿਰਭਰ ਬਣ ਸਕਣ।

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ’ਤੇ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਉੱਚ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਸਰਕਾਰ ਪੀੜਤ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਨਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਵੇ।” ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਅਧੀਨ ਅਤੇ ਯੋਗਤਾ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰ ’ਤੇ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ।

ਨੌਕਰੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਗਜ਼ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਕ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। ਇੱਕ ਪੀੜਤ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆ ਸਕਦੇ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਦਦ ਕਰੇਗੀ।”

ਸਮਾਰੋਹ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ Nowgam ਵਿਸਫੋਟ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਦੋਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, ਪੀੜਤ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਹੋਰ ਮੁਆਵਜ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਭਲਾਈ ਯੋਜਨਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਵੀ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

ਕਾਰਜਕ੍ਰਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਜਨਤਕ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਸਫੋਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ ਭੇਟ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਘੜੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੀੜਤ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਖੜੀ ਹੈ।

ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ, ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਤਵਾਦੀ ਨੈੱਟਵਰਕ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਪੱਧਰ ’ਤੇ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ, ਭਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਫੰਡਿੰਗ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਕੰਮ ਸੌਂਪੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਜਾਂਚ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਪਤ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਮਾਧਿਅਮਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੜਕਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਗਲਤ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਫੈਲਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ। ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਏਜੰਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਦਾਨੀ ਖੁਫ਼ੀਆ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰ ’ਤੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰੀ ਸਮੇਂ ਅੱਤਵਾਦੀ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਡਿਜ਼ੀਟਲ ਡਿਵਾਈਸ, ਸੰਦੇਹਾਸਪਦ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਮੱਗਰੀ ਜ਼ਬਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਫੋਰੈਂਸਿਕ ਜਾਂਚ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਬਰਾਮਦਗੀਆਂ ਅੱਤਵਾਦੀ ਨੈੱਟਵਰਕ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੜੀਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਨਗੀਆਂ। ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੈਰਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਰੋਕਥਾਮ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ (UAPA) ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਲਾਗੂ ਧਾਰਾਵਾਂ ਹੇਠ ਕੇਸ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੇ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਪਸ਼ਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਸਮਝੌਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਤਵਾਦ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਪੂਰੀ ਸਖ਼ਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਰੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਇਲਾਕਿਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਸੰਵੇਦਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਵਧਾਈ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਏਜੰਸੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਤਾਲਮੇਲ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

ਰਾਜ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਸਫਲ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਲਈ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਏਜੰਸੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਰਾਹਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਗਰਿਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਸ਼ੱਕੀ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਦੇਣ। ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਮਨ, ਭਾਈਚਾਰਕ ਸਾਂਝ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਹੈ।

ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ, ਇਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰੀ ਅੱਤਵਾਦੀ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਲਈ ਸਪਸ਼ਟ ਸੁਨੇਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਤਵਾਦ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਏਜੰਸੀਆਂ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਚੇਤਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਜ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਅਖੰਡਤਾ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਲਈ ਵਚਨਬੱਧ ਹਨ।

ਆਯੋਜਕਾਂ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ, ਜੰਮੂ ਮੈਰਾਥਨ 2025 ਵਿੱਚ ਫੁੱਲ ਮੈਰਾਥਨ, ਹਾਫ ਮੈਰਾਥਨ, 10 ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਅਤੇ 5 ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਦੌੜਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਹਰ ਉਮਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਗ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਭਾਗ ਲੈ ਸਕਣ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਦਿਵਿਆੰਗ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਿਲਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਗੀਦਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਅਲੱਗ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।

ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਵਿਧਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਦਿਆਂ, ਰੂਟ ਮੈਪ ਦੀ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਰੂਪਰੇਖਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ। ਟ੍ਰੈਫਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ, ਮੈਡੀਕਲ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ, ਪੀਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਾਣੀ, ਰੈਸਟ ਪਾਇੰਟ ਅਤੇ ਐਮਰਜੈਂਸੀ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਟੀਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਇਨਾਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਸੜਕ ਮਾਰਗਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਸਫ਼ਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਸਜਾਵਟ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਵੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਭਾਗੀਦਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਮਿਲ ਸਕੇ।

ਖੇਡ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਮੈਰਾਥਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਮੁਹਿੰਮਾਂ, ਫਿਟਨੈੱਸ ਕੈਂਪ ਅਤੇ ਟ੍ਰੇਨਿੰਗ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਸਕੂਲਾਂ, ਕਾਲਜਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ।

ਸਥਾਨਕ ਵਪਾਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਟੂਰਿਜ਼ਮ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਜੰਮੂ ਮੈਰਾਥਨ 2025 ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਜ਼ਾਹਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਖੇਡ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਨਾਲ ਸੈਰ-ਸਪਾਟੇ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਧਾ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਅਰਥਵਿਵਸਥਾ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। ਹੋਟਲ, ਟ੍ਰਾਂਸਪੋਰਟ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ ਲਈ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਤਿਆਰੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਜਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

Diwan Hari Chand, commander of the Dogra army, stared at Ragasha with vengeful disdain, his eyes red from sleepless fury. Drawing his sword, Hari Chand raised it high, and the pearls on its hilt glittered in the sun’s darting rays.

In preparation for the blade’s descent, Ragasha closed his eyes. His destiny was uncertain, and he was plagued by the memories of Dogra General Zorawar Singh Kahluria. However, the fate of Ladakh and the tale of how the Buddhist monarchy joined India were influenced by these mid-19th-century events.

Earlier last week, protests broke out in Leh, the capital of Ladakh, more than a century later. In Leh, protesters turned to violence because they were angry that statehood and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule, which would give ethnic groups more security and autonomy, had not yet been granted. Four individuals lost their lives as a result of the protests, which were sparked by young dissatisfaction in Ladakh.

The turn of events in Ladakh this week makes it important to look back at how the kingdom became a part of India, how Dogra forces from Jammu incorporated it into their kingdom and how General Zorawar Singh and his men fought and laid down their lives for the cause.

LADAKH: NATURE’S OWN FORTRESS

In July-August 1842, responding to an urgent plea from the Taklakot garrison, Diwan Hari Chand, commander of the Dogra army, led 3,000 soldiers into Ladakh.

Ladakh was a kingdom resting in the shadow of the Himalayas, where mountain peaks seemed to embrace the heavens. Today, it is an integral part of India. Historically, it bore names like Maryul (the Red Land) and Kha-pan-cha (the Snow-land).

“Fa-hien (AD 412) calls the kingdom ‘Kei-Chha’, whereas Yuan-Chwang (AD 640) calls it ‘Ma-lo-pho’, the “Snow-land”, writes historian Sukhdev Singh Charak in General Zorawar Singh (1983).

Charak notes that Ladakh is inhabited by a people of Tibetan origin, the Bot-pa, whose religion is Tibetan Buddhism, led by a unique monk hierarchy called the Lama. “This name”, he explains, “is said to have been derived from Brahman by its first softening into Blahma and finally into Lama.”

For centuries, Ladakh stood as a crossroads of civilisations. Caravans from Yarkand, Kashgar, and Lhasa traversed the Himalayas through its passes. Monasteries perched on rocky cliffs safeguarded the chants and wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism. The valleys echoed with trade – pashmina wool for salt, silk, and turquoise.

Ladakh sits atop the Trans-Himalayan plains at altitudes between 10,000 and 18,000 feet, making its landscape a formidable barrier. Passes like Zoji La (11,575 feet) and Chang La (17,586 feet) were notorious as death traps.
Lying between the Tibetan plateau and the Indus River plains, Ladakh’s fate was always to attract greater powers, though its harsh landscape was its greatest protector. In Leh’s thin air, defenders repelled invaders; snow and hunger vanquished more armies than Ladakhi spears ever did.

Yet, in 1834, a storm gathered in the south, one destined to reshape this skybound land forever.

WHY JAMMU’S DOGRA KING WANTED TO CONQUER LADAKH

The Dogra king of Jammu, Gulab Singh, was determined to conquer the Red Land.

Historians continue to debate the reasons for Gulab Singh’s ambition. Most agree the Dogra king, a vassal of the Khalsa Empire, wanted a monopoly on the lucrative pashmina wool trade of Tibet. Others believe that his goal was more ambitious – he dreamt of a land bridge between Ladakh and Nepal to create a Sikh-Gorkha alliance against the British, who were entrenched in the south of the Khalsa kingdom based in Lahore.

Gulab Singh tasked the wazir of Kishtwar, Zorawar Singh Kahluria, with the conquest of Ladakh.

Before Zorawar Singh’s campaign, Ladakh faced no adversary with the will and means to breach its defences.

The Mughal Empire, focused on India’s plains, lacked the logistics for Himalayan campaigns. The Sikh Empire, under Ranjit Singh, was preoccupied with the Punjab and Afghan wars; Ladakh’s tribute sufficed to keep it at bay. Central Asian khanates were raided sporadically but lacked sustained ambition.

“Zorawar Singh knew that U-Tsang (western Tibet) was connected to the rest of Tibet by the Mayum pass, so his plan consisted of advancing as quickly as possible into enemy territory, capturing the pass before winter, and building up his forces for a renewed campaign in the summer,” writes Major General GD Bakshi (Retired) in his book, Footprints in the Snow (2002).

ZORAWAR SINGH FIRST WON LADAKH FOR JAMMU’S DOGRA KING.

King Tshe-dbang Namgyal of Ladakh, oblivious to the unfolding threat, sat atop the Leh palace. His ancient kingdom was fractured: nobles were divided, and the army faced a modern foe armed with gunpowder.

In the autumn of 1834, Zorawar Singh’s banners appeared on the horizon, “a sea of steel and fire”. The Dogras marched through treacherous mountain passes, their cannons trudged across frost-covered stones by dedicated soldiers.

Leh’s mud-brick walls, historically resilient, crumbled before the power of Dogra artillery.

For eight years, the Dogras ruled from Leh. Ladakh, no longer a sovereign kingdom, became a mere province, tethered to Jammu’s rising fortunes.

Zorawar Singh’s ambitions then carried him further. In 1841, he invaded western Tibet, capturing Lake Manasarovar and other sacred territories. However, the Chinese Qing Empire responded with reinforcements.

In a brutal winter campaign, the Dogra army was crushed at Rudok; on December 12, 1841, General Zorawar Singh was captured and beheaded at To-yo. His head was displayed as a trophy, but later his bravery was immortalised with a samadhi.

HARI CHAND AND THE SWORD OF VENGEANCE IN CHUSUL

With Zorawar Singh slain, the Tibetan army surged west, intent on reclaiming Ladakh and severing Dogra power. From Rutok and Gartok, their columns pressed toward Leh.

Gulab Singh, Jammu’s Dogra king, quickly sent his nephew, Diwan Hari Chand, with fresh forces – battle-hardened infantry and cavalry adept at mountain warfare.

Chushul, a windswept valley nearly 14,000 feet high, was the pivotal battleground; whoever held it would control the approach to Leh.

For weeks in 1842, both Dogra and Sino-Tibetan forces launched daring raids. The tide turned when Hari Chand, exploiting Ladakh’s geography, ordered a dam built downstream to flood the Tibetan camp, which lay at a lower elevation.

“In three days after the erection of the dam, the Tibetan trenches were flooded and had to be deserted. Outside their fortifications, the Tibetans were no match for the well-armed Dogras. As soon as the Tibetans were on the move, Dogra commanders Wazir Ratanu and Diwan Hari Chand led several attacks. Most of the Tibetans fled in panic, and several were captured,” records Charak.

British intelligence reported the capture of several Tibetan officers, including General Ragasha.

On Hari Chand’s signal, Ragasha was beheaded to avenge the killing of Zorawar Singh.

TREATY OF CHUSUL: WAR AND PEACE IN LADAKH.

On September 17, 1842, the Treaty of Chushul was signed, reaffirming historic boundaries and promising peace along ancient trade routes.

The Gulabnama, a history of Jammu, notes that Tibetans recognised the established frontiers of Ladakh and agreed never again to dispute Dogra sovereignty.

“Gulab Singh, and through him, the Lahore Court, gave up all claim to Western Tibet. The old established frontiers were reaffirmed, and both parties agreed to respect them. The Ladakhi king was permitted to reside in Ladakh provided he refrained from intrigues against the Dogra,” Charak writes.

HOW LADAKH BECAME AN INSEPARABLE PART OF INDIA.

The British gained control of the Sikh empire after the First Anglo-Sikh War in 1846. Since the Sikh rulers couldn’t pay the indemnity, they ceded Jammu and Kashmir to the British.

The British sold Jammu and Kashmir to Gulab Singh in 1846, and Ladakh’s place within the princely state was secured.

A century later, in 1947, as India achieved Independence, Ladakh’s story joined the nation’s with Maharaja Hari Singh’s signature on the instrument of accession.

Hari Singh was the great-grandson of Gulab Singh, who had first tasked Zorawar Singh with the conquest of Ladakh.

In the Himalayas, where the wind still whispers of Zorawar Singh, history endures. Ladakh remains an inseparable part of Indian geography – a saga forged by ambition, resistance, and the indomitable will of its people and leaders.

History, it is said, returns with a vengeance. The fall of Zorawar Singh would not be the last bloody episode on Ladakh’s icy frontier. In 1962, China invaded Aksai Chin, tearing away Ladakh’s eastern lands and reopening old wounds. Decades of tensions followed, including the deadly 2020 border clash near Galwan.

And yet, Ladakh persists. Today, a Union Territory of India, it stands as a living testament to survival: home to monks whose chants have outlasted empires, to caravans that carried silk and salt over frozen passes, and to generals like Zorawar Singh, whose ambitions in life and death bound the region into India’s destiny.

Eleven pilgrims on the Manimahesh pilgrimage have perished in a landslip in Bharmour, Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, during intense rains. Three people from Punjab, one from Uttar Pradesh, and five from Chamba are among the dead. Two victims have not yet had their identities verified.

Officials said that a shortage of oxygen and falling rocks were to blame for the deaths. A rescue effort is in progress for the approximately 3,000 Manimahesh devotees who are currently stranded in Bharmour. Seven devotees were also murdered in a landslip last week, and nine more are currently unaccounted for.

However, in Uttarakhand’s districts of Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Tehri Garhwal, a cloudburst on Thursday night has left numerous persons missing. According to Rudraprayag SSP Akshay Prahlad Kode, around 70 persons have been evacuated from the impacted areas. Four Nepalis and four locals are buried beneath the rubble, and one woman has perished.

Rudraprayag’s Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers have dangerously high water levels. Residential areas have also been affected by water. The Alaknanda River has flooded portions of the Badrinath Highway, causing traffic to stop between Rudraprayag and Srinagar. Strong currents in the Kedarnath Valley have carried away a bridge that was constructed at Lavara hamlet on the motorway. Many families in Chamoli are feared to be buried beneath the rubble. Numerous homes with big rocks have also sustained major damage as a result of the unexpected flash floods.

Himachal Pradesh

• Fatal Landslide: A major landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district killed 11 devotees on the Manimahesh pilgrimage. The deaths were caused by falling rocks and a lack of oxygen.
• Previous Landslide: A separate landslide in the same region last week had also killed 7 devotees and left 9 others missing.
• Road Closure: The Chamba-Bharmour road is completely blocked due to a massive landslide, trapping approximately 10,000 people.
• Yatra Suspension: Due to heavy rainfall and the danger of more landslides, the Himachal Pradesh government has suspended the Manimahesh Yatra.
• 

Damage from Landslides in Uttarakhand: New cloudbursts and landslides have struck multiple districts, resulting in extensive destruction and the loss of numerous lives.

Trapped Victims: Four Nepalis and four locals are trapped behind rubble from a landslip in Rudraprayag, and a woman has died.

Highway Blockage: Due to landslides, many roads, including national highways, are closed, which prevents traffic from moving between Rudraprayag and Srinagar.

Families Trapped: Many families in Chamoli are feared to be buried behind rubble from a landslip brought on by unexpected flash floods.

Wider Effects and Reaction:
Yatra suspension: Because of the severe weather, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board had already halted the pilgrimage on the Himkoti route in the morning and completely halted the Yatra on the ancient route at 1:30 pm. The pilgrimage has been halted till further notice due to the landslip.

Damage and Widespread Flooding: The landslip is a component of a broader regional catastrophe. For several days, Jammu and Kashmir has been hammered by heavy, unrelenting rain, which has caused flash floods and a dramatic rise in the water levels of important rivers, including the Tawi, Chenab, and Jhelum.

Interrupted Communication:

Railways: Due to track damage brought on by flash floods, at least 18 to 22 trains have been cancelled, and others have been short-terminated.

Roads: Landslides and bridge collapses have blocked or damaged important national highways, including the Jammu-Srinagar and Jammu-Pathankot highways.

Communication: Due to damaged optical fibre networks, telecom services, including internet and mobile, have been significantly hampered or are “almost nonexistent” in several areas of the region.

Large-scale rescue and relief efforts are being carried out by the Indian Army, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local government. In addition to setting up community kitchens and aid camps, they are evacuating thousands of people from areas affected by flooding.

Official Statements: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have offered their sympathies and promised to help those in need as much as possible.
